(Open letter to NASA needs to be posted on your website ) Your client, NASA, must know that You and your team understand the engineering design challenges in building your rocket to meet the needs of planning a mission to Mars.
You and your team must write an open letter to NASA explaining your teams understanding of this challenge.(Additional letter requirements)
In the letter, students should start by explaining the individual and societal needs that drive the mission to Mars.
Next, in your letter you should include the criteria, constraints, and possible solutions for all of the mission elements.
Finally, students should discuss what a successful design solution would entail to meet all of the Mission Elements.
NOTE: BELOW IS A SAMPLE LETTER YOU ALL HAVE DIFFERENT WRITING ABILITIES DO YOUR BEST.
To Whom IT May Concern, We accept your challenge to design a water rocket capable of sustaining and developing a payload (in this case an egg) into earth’s orbit. We are excited to begin on this journey because of the challenges, and benefits that a project of this scope can offer.
Ever since Magellan, the Vikings and even Louis and Clark we share humanities innate desire to explore and to learn the unknown. We know that to understand our own planet we must also seek to know the solar system in which our planet survives. In the 1960’s the U.S. put a man on the moon using the Apolo Rocket that had less technology in it, then the technology we carry in our pockets today. As Pres. Kennedy so elegantly phrased it, we choose to do accept this challenge “not because they are easy but because they are hard”. We are eager to see what technologies we develop for this mission that will be transformed into day-to-day technologies of tomorrow. This endeavor is not going to be easy, we must design this rocket to scale finding area. We must learn to operate as a team. Once we design the rocket we will need to test and evaluate it for stability. We will keep you apprised on our progress by keeping our rocket website with our progress update. Lastly, we understand that what we develop cost effective project to maximize the economic benefits. This is not going to be easy, but we have a few ideas. In our ideas we believe that a successful rocket will be creative. We must think outside of the box and within the box. By doing this we should be able to achieve the highest possible altitude that is capable of delivering the payload safely to the surface of a planet. To complicate things, all of it needs to be done with limited funds and resources.
Time is short and we have a lot of work to do. So wish us luck and Hope you like our project. Respectfully, Team Awesome
